School Board to vote on new attendance area

On Monday, Dec. 16th, the MCPASD School Board will be holding a final meeting to hear comments (beginning at 6:30), discuss and vote on changes to the current Elementary attendance areas. One option would have significant impacts to Northside (D3.1.3), while the other would have less of an impact (D3.7.2). If you are able to attend the meeting on Monday, this is your final chance to make a comment before they vote.

School Board to vote on redistricting options

We, the PTO board, wish to make you aware that there is an upcoming school board meeting on December 2nd (6:30pm, Kromrey Cafetorium) during which the School Board will review and discuss the official redistricting recommendations as finalized by the Internal Boundary Committee. Of the two options being presented, option D3.1.3 would move the entire Northlake neighborhood as well as Bishops Bay and Fox Bluff from the Northside attendance area to Sauk Trail. The other option (D3.7.2) would move neighborhoods in the SE corner of the district from Elm Lawn to Sauk Trail (including High Point Estates, Applewood Hill, Newberry Heights and Westview Hills).

Option D3.1.3 would have significant impacts to our PTO as many current committee members reside in these neighborhoods, and would leave Northside considerably underpopulated, certainly impacting our Northside community as a whole. The reasoning for shifting students to Sauk Trail would be to fill a gap left by a section of the Blackhawk neighborhood that currently attends Sauk Trail but will be moving to the new Pope Farm school when it opens in the fall.

The School Board will be holding a listening session prior to the meeting on Dec. 2nd, beginning at 6:30 (with the regular board meeting to begin at 7pm). The Northside PTO president will be making a statement at this meeting on behalf of the PTO. If you wish to make your own comments/statement, this meeting would be the best opportunity to do so. The listening session will allow for comments from individuals with a time limit of 3 minutes. It is expected that the School Board will review options and comments presented at the meeting on the 2nd, and possibly vote on a final option at their following meeting on Dec. 16th.
